information: the arrival

world: Earth-adjacent, 2030. Some geographical differences.

Creatures of Millennia are often revered, but hunted by the Men of Dawn, a powerful occultist group that views their existence as blasphemy. The arrival of creatures like Coyo traces back to the prehistoric era, with their first documentation being in the Leang Karampuang cave. Some say that they fall straight out of the sky as meteors, while others claim to see them crawl out of Earth itself. These beings take on the shape of those around them, but have key characteristics that separate them from humans. Aliens, gods, monsters, demons—whatever they are, they are here for a reason.

Because of how ancient the arrival is, it was difficult to predict or even believe. Not all Creatures are immortal, and many of them chose to remain hidden or disguised, preferring to work behind the scenes to manipulate history so as not to disrupt the natural order. They guided the Pharaohs, became Gods to the Mayans, aliens to the more modern civilizations, assisting in language and scripture all over the world. Some factions believed they were to be protected or feared destruction of the human race, while others tried to correlate the arrival with the second coming of Christ.

Hints of a prophecy of these mysterious beings were scattered through manuscripts, some lost in the Library of Alexandria. Humans grasped for understanding with minimal pages to interpret, yet one constant piece of information endured through time: nine beings are destined to inhabit the Earth at once. A steadily growing cult seized this prophecy and twisted its narrative for power. "Join the Men of Dawn, and you will be saved once the Nine unite." Religious wars broke out across history; the Creatures were rumored with no evidence of existence, yet the cult would miraculously survive each conflict, reinforcing their faith with every victory.

As the Nine Creatures begin to cross paths, their powers intensify, but not all of them wish to unite. Elders are insistent on remaining separate, sticking to their corners of the world to continue influencing human history or enjoy their lives as gods.

[ origins ]

Having seen history repeat itself over and over again, the old gods decided to play a game. They were bored of watching over the Earth and other life forms and wanted to experience the human experience, willingly forgetting their pasts, but maintaining magick and monstrous capabilities to tether their memories to the old ways. Some had an agenda and wanted a chance of rewriting the script entirely, while others tired of their immortality and yearned for mortality. However, The Fates don't play favorites. Names such as Odin, Dagda, Poseidon, Hekate, Lilith, Shiva, Loki and many more disintegrated for the reset.

Creatures were released across the world, but unless they were among the Nine, they were born mortal—disconnected from who they once were. Even if they managed to reconnect, few understood what it meant. Those who gambled with their survival risked being worshipped as gods or killed on sight for revealing their powers. The Fates cast the gods into humanity with great imbalance. No two are alike: some reflect the god who willingly descended to Earth, while others embody the nightmares humans have spun across time. Some are weak while others hold unimaginable power.

[ the men of dawn ]

Once devout worshipers of these ancient beings, the Men of Dawn sought Creatures out over generations with hopes of uniting the Nine. Their cult grew while the Creatures remained hidden or died, sowing doubt in their faith. The origins of faith became lost beneath layers of doctrine and zealotry, with its members being sent out to destroy evidence, assassinate prophets, and raze temples. Now entangled with government factions, this group uses advanced technology to pinpoint possible locations of new arrivals to capture and experiment on them. Some still believe that gathering those from the prophecy will unlock an unspeakable power.
